LIBERTY & FALLSBURG SCHOOL DISTRICTS HIT WITH MULTIPLE CASES THIS WEEK
On Thursday, 48 Sullivan residents tested positive for COVID-19, according to data released today by New York State. A day earlier, the state recorded 35 positive cases among residents in Sullivan.
The 83 cases over a 48-hour period is the highest number that Sullivan has experienced in months.
The County Covid dashboard data released today says there are 220 active cases with six people hospitalized with coronavirus and 638 quarantined as of Friday afternoon.
Some of those 638 quarantined likely include 71 students and one staff member from the Fallsburg School District as there have been at least three confirmed positive cases in the District since November 7. One part of the town of Fallsburg (12733 zip code) has the lowest vaccination rate in Sullivan, as just 14.2 percent of that population has received the full vaccine series.
Below is a chart from the state showing those communities in Sullivan that have full vaccination rates below 50 percent of the population.

In the Liberty Central School District, there have been at least nine students and two staff members who tested positive for coronavirus between November 8 through November 11. The District did not report how many students and staff may have been quarantined as a result but it's believed they factor into the 638 number.

Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story stated that the Town of Fallsburg has a full vaccination rate of just 14.2 percent. In fact, that number was associated only with the part of Fallsburg that is in the area code 12733. The SullivanTimes has corrected the info and regrets the error.
