Schick To Hear Arguments This Afternoon Regarding COVID-19 In Sullivan County Jail

Civil Rights Group Seeks Release of Four Prisoners Who Are Over 50

Court papers were filed Wednesday by the Acting District Attorney's Office opposing the New York Civil Liberties Union petition for the release of four prisoners who are over the age of 50 due to the spread of coronavirus.

State Supreme Court Justice Stephan Schick will hear arguments from the parties by videoconference that is scheduled for 1:30 pm today.

Last Friday, NYCLU filed a petition for habeas corpus that largely contradicted what Undersheriff Eric Chaboty has been telling the public about the medical conditions of inmates inside the jail. Nearly half of the 73 inmates have tested positive for the virus plus at least four correction officers.
