CENTRAL ISLIP - Sherry Li and Lianbo Wang plead not guilty at their arraignment in federal court here on Monday following their multiple count indictment connected with their EB-5 visa fraud scheme and their proposed Thompson Education Center Project (China City of America).
The pair, arrested in July at their Oyster Bay, Long Island home and indicted by a grand jury on October 28, appeared before Eastern District Court Magistrate Judge Anne Y. Shields.
Li and Wang are each charged with wire fraud conspiracy, money laundering conspiracy and conspiracy to defraud the United States by obstructing the Federal Election Commission’s (FEC) administration of campaign finance laws.
Their next status conference is set for February 10, 2023.
The pair emerged in the public eye during 2013 when they announced plans to build "China City of America" that involved the towns of Mamakating, Thompson and Fallsburg.
They also later became known beyond Sullivan as among the top donors to the campaign to elect Donald Trump as president.
