SULLIVAN WEST STUDENTS SUBMIT PETITION TO REINSTATE RON BAUER AS VOLUNTEER TRACK COACH

A petition that reportedly has 359 signatures from Sullivan West students calling for the reinstatement of Ron Bauer to volunteer as a an outdoor track and field coach for the spring season was submitted to the district's Board of Education at its meeting Thursday night.

The petition was in response to the Sullivan West Central School District Board of Education decision in February 2020 to abruptly terminate Bauer's positions as coach of the boys varsity indoor and outdoor track teams. No reason was given for the termination.

Bauer, who has coached track and field plus football for more than four decades, was inducted into the Section IX track and field Hall of Fame last year. He remains a social studies teacher at the school with a salary of $118,161.

Bauer could not immediately be reached for comment about the petition or his termination as a coach.
