WOODBOURNE CORRECTIONAL COVID CASES AMONG INMATES INCREASE BY 16 IN 24-HOUR PERIOD

Represents Largest Increase From Dec. 21-22 Across All New York State Prisons

WOODBOURNE - The total number of inmates at Woodbourne Correctional Facility who have tested positive for Covid-19 rose to at least 121, as of Tuesday at 3 pm.

That's 16 more than 24 hours earlier, representing the largest increase across all New York state prisons during the same one-day period. (The SullivanTimes today compared the data sheets provided by the New York State Department of Corrections & Community Supervision for December 21 and December 22 to confirm this). There are also 70 coronavirus tests currently pending.

All the cases at the Woodbourne prison were recorded during the month of December after the facility showed zero cases from March through November. But, as The SullivanTimes reported exclusively, the facility did not start testing on a wide scale until November 9.

A source who works at the facility last week told The SullivanTimes that at least three corrections officers have also tested positive. The state does not reveal information related to officers and staff by facility. That's the subject of a lawsuit filed last week by the Legal Aid Society.

On December 15, Woodbourne had a total of 32 positive cases among inmates and has see a steady increase every day since.
